2008 Press Release: IEMA, FEMA, SBA To Begin Flood Damage
Assessments
For immediate release
September 18, 2008
WHO: Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)
Local emergency management representatives
WHAT: Teams from IEMA, FEMA, SBA and local emergency
management agencies will begin assessing damage to homes and
businesses caused by last weekend’s flooding. The media is invited
to observe as a team begins assessments in Des Plaines.
WHEN: Friday, Sept. 19, 9:30 am
WHERE: Rand Road and Hawthorne Lane in Des Plaines
INFORMATION: On Sept. 15, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich
declared seven Illinois counties state disaster areas following
severe flash flooding. The assessment teams will be looking at
flood-damaged homes and businesses and assessing the severity of the
damage. If the damage is so extensive that the ability to recover
from the disaster is beyond the capability of local and state
governments, documentation from the assessments could be used to
support a state request for federal assistance.
