
2008 Press Release: Governor Blagojevich Tours Flood-Impacted Areas

Des Plaines Mayor Tony Arredia and several
other local officials attended the September 15, 2008 Press
conference called by Governor Rod R. Blagojevich at the Prairie
Lakes Community Center, 515 E. Thacker. The Governor announced that
Cook County was one of seven counties to be declared disaster areas.
With the state proclamation state assets and personnel will be
provided to affected communities to help them respond and recover
from the floods. The Prairie Lakes Des Plaines Park District
facility has been utilized as a shelter over the past several days
following the severe area flooding. (pictured above) Des Plaines
Mayor Tony Arredia and Governor Blagojevich address inquiries from
the press regarding the recent flood in Des Plaines which affected
approximately 2,500 residents and has immobilized the City’s roads,
closed schools, and caused Citywide damage.
