2007 Press Release: 3rd Annual Citywide Community Garage Sale

The City of Des Plaines, along with Starck & Company Realtors, is sponsoring the third annual citywide community garage sale for Des Plaines.  Residents in zip code 60016 will be able to have their garage sale from Friday, May 11, 2007 to Sunday, May 13, 2007.  Residents in zip code 60018 will be able to have their garage sale from Friday, May 18, 2007 to Sunday, May 20, 2007. Rain date for both zip codes will be Friday, May 25, 2007, to Sunday, May 27, 2007. Garage sale permits will be waived for these designated dates and designated zip codes only.   

This voluntary event is open to all interested Des Plaines residents.  Residents may choose to participate for 1 day, 2 days or all 3 days.  Participants can display their items for sale on front lawns and driveways from 9 AM to sunset.  Starck & Company Realtors are providing residents with 2 free garage sale signs per family.  Starck & Company Realtors are also composing a list and map of all participating homes to provide to shoppers.  Residents may register their home with Starck Realty.  For more information on free signs and registration, contact or visit Starck Realty, 734 Lee Street, in Des Plaines, 847-298-5055, or 300 W. Garage sale signs are allowed on private property but not on utility poles, street signs or City right-of ways.  Residents are asked to please remove signs once sale has ended.  Residents may donate items to charities such as Purple Heart Veterans 708-396-8990, AMVETS 708-388-7800 or Salvation Army 888-5-PICKUP.  Items for disposal must be removed until scheduled refuse collection day.  If items are placed at the curbside before scheduled refuse collection day, resident will be in violation of Ordinance 5-2-8.  ARC Disposal will collect items at the curbside the following week as long as items are prepared within requirements.  For questionable disposal items, please contact 847-391-5650.
