September Programs at the History Center
The care and cleaning of antique silver will be the topic of the
History Center's monthly series, Coffee Talk, this September. The
program will be held on Thursday, September 11 from 1:30-2:30 pm in
the Visitor Center, 781 Pearson Street. The program is free of
charge and free coffee, tea and cookies will be served. New
Historical Society staff member Jennifer Galida will discuss how to
clean tarnished silver and preserve it for years to come. Galida
holds a master's degree in the history of decorative arts from the
Smithsonian Institution.
Wednesday, September 15 begins the History Center's Home-School
program for the 2008-2009 school year. The program topic will be
Native Americans of Illinois and will include a short hands-on
presentation followed by an opportunity to make a Native American
game. Programs are held on the third Wednesday of the month from
10:00 am - 11:00 am or 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. Programs are free but
reservations are required by calling 847-391-5399. An adult must
accompany children to programs.

District, and the Des Plaines Historical Society, the Des Plaines
History Center consists of three facilities, the Visitor Center, the
Kinder House, and the Fisher-Wright House. For more information
